Ibadan’s vibrant food scene recently got a major uplift as the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) launched an intensive culinary course for 100 eager women right in the city as part of its national outreach.
The air buzzed with excitement as the participants and seasoned cooks alike gathered, with knives and spoons in hand, while mastering the art of preparing indigenous soups and other global delicacies.
True to NIHOTOUR’s experiential training ethos, participants were taught the basics of prepping regional staples to plating international dishes, the curriculum spans knife skills and hygiene to production, presentation, and safe sourcing.
At the training, tagged NIHOTOUR CULINARY 2025, there was a dynamic rhythm of teams chopping, frying, seasoning, and tasting with every sizzling detail.
For the 100 trainees, many from Ibadan’s communities, it was more than classwork; it was an empowerment where grants were presented to a few participants as an encouragement to operate their personal businesses. They gained marketable skills, learnt entrepreneurship, and tapped into Nigeria’s rich culinary heritage.
NIHOTOUR’s Director-General, Bisoye Fagade, emphasised that the mobile courses aim to combat unemployment, boost tourism, and elevate Nigeria’s food industry. He also hinted at plans to spread it to other zones across Nigeria as part of President Tinubu’s agenda to reduce poverty to the barest minimum.
