Nigeria’s economy at lowest ebb ― ADP presidential candidate

Published by

The Presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party, Engr. Yabagi Sani, on Wednesday, disclosed that the nation’s economy is currently at the lowest ebb with its growing rate.

He said this during his visit to former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, at his residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, that the development caused for worries.

Sani accompanied by his running mate, Prince Kunle Olateru-Olagbegi, lamented that the gradual fall of the country’s Gross Domestic Product of the country, which he put at 1.5 per cent as against $570 billion recorded at five per cent some three years ago.

The ADP standard-bearer said the country despite its great potentials still suffer hunger, deprivation, lack of direction, lack of good governance amongst others.

He submitted that Nigeria listed as number six among the countries exporting crude oil could be confronted with the challenge of poverty.

Sani promised to turn around the economy of the country if elected based on his capacity and knowledge.

“The economy of this country is at the lowest ebb that you can ever think of. This is a country whose GDP was about $570bn just about three years ago growing at a rate of 5 per cent or more and today, the economy has gone down to 1.5 per cent growth rate. With all the potentials of this country, believe you me, it is not our lot.

“This economy is an economy that is a promise of performance. You can’t have oil and gas industry and occupy sixth position in the list of countries that export crude oil and be in poverty as we are. It’s not possible. It is only possible if we have bad leadership. That is what we are coming to change.

“I have the capacity, knowledge. I know how to make use of the oil and gas sector. It’s a gift from God. That’s why we have to come here to tell him that all hope is not lost. We are there. Nigeria is blessed and that’s why on the platform of the Action Democratic Party, Engr. Y. Y. Sanni is contesting because we can do it, because we know what it takes and because we see it being done around us where they are less blessed than us,” he added.

He urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the face of myriads of challenges battling it, saying that his party would restore hope and confidence in the people.

The ADP candidate said, “God did not plan or mean or want us to suffer hunger, deprivation, killing, lack of capacity in governance, lack of direction. The economy can sustain us one million times over and this true. That’s why we have to come here and tell him that all hope is not lost. It is not about two bad choices. It is not about the PDP and APC.

“It is about the future. It’s about looking forward to something great. It’s about today because the future begins today. We are the future, we have the capacity and we want his support and support of Nigerians, that’s why we are here.”
