Former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos, has advised those in leadership positions and stakeholders across Nigeria to confront insecurity ravaging parts of the country head-on and with all seriousness.
The former federal lawmaker urged leaders to return to the drawing board and approach the matter as a national challenge, stressing that with honesty and boldness, insecurity could become a thing of the past.
He said, “The issue of insecurity in Plateau North and Nigeria is a problem we understand. But we must bring in leaders who understand the issues and are ready to face them head-on not sugarcoat them. If we have the right leaders who are honest and bold, insecurity is a problem we can solve.
“The menace of insecurity started as farmers-herders clashes. That was the first problem. But because it wasn’t properly addressed, especially politically, it snowballed into something terrible. Now we have banditry, kidnapping, land grabbing, and other threats to peaceful coexistence and harmony in the country.”

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Youth Summit organised by youths in Plateau North Senatorial District, Hon. Bagos assured that if his aspiration to represent the zone in the Senate in 2027 succeeds, he would confront the security issues in Plateau North head-on.
He said, “By the grace of God, if this mandate goes through, we will face the issues directly. We’ll come to the table and call a spade a spade. We’ll join hands with the Executive Governor to tackle these problems. These issues weren’t there before which means they can be eradicated.
“It’s like malaria. Yesterday, you didn’t have it. But if you get bitten by a mosquito, you develop malaria. And what do you do? You take anti-malaria drugs. Same thing here. We will find the solution.”
On the summit, Hon. Bagos explained that it was an initiative of youths in Plateau North Senatorial District to articulate issues affecting the zone, adding that he only keyed into it to advance their cause.
He added, “This summit is where we discuss the future of Plateau Northern youths. Not just to talk, but to articulate concrete issues that will inform our agenda. This will guide our campaign and aspirations.
“We don’t want to go to the streets making empty campaign promises anymore saying ‘we will give you this, we will give you that.’ No. This summit is where the youths themselves are saying: this is what we want you to drive your campaign on.”
