The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has appointed Dr. Abdulkadir Salman Solagberu, a prominent Islamic cleric based in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, as a member of the international Islamic body.
In a statement signed by the Union’s General Secretary, Dr. Muhammad Ali al-Solaby, the Nigerian Islamic scholar was named to the Islamic Jurisprudence Researchers Division within this influential organization of esteemed global Muslim scholars.
According to the Union’s official website, the IUMS boasts over 90,000 members worldwide.
The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), founded in 2004 and currently led by Ahmad al-Raysuni, is an organization of Muslim theologians focused on uniting the Islamic world across sectoral divides. They also hold a strong interest in the sciences of Shari’ah and Islamic civilization.
Reacting to the appointment, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III (CFR), praised the appointment as well-deserved, considering Dr. Salman Sholagberu’s longstanding dedication to the propagation of Islam.

The Sultan encouraged him to continue promoting unity among Muslims within Nigeria and beyond, offering prayers for strength, sound health, and divine guidance as he fulfills his duties.
In a related congratulatory message, the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), the umbrella body for Ilorin natives, commended Dr. Solagberu for his contributions to promoting the religious and cultural heritage of the community, both locally and internationally. The Union urged Dr. Solagberu, who also serves as the proprietor of Darul Kitab Wa Sunna College of Arabic and Islamic Studies in Ilorin, to remain a role model within and outside the Ilorin Emirate.
Similarly, Engineer Suleiman Yahaya Alapansanpa, former Chairman of the Board of the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and the Danmasani of Ilorin, described the appointment as a well-deserved honor.
He stated, “His appointment to this international body is no surprise to the Ilorin Emirate Durbar Committee, where Dr. Salman Sholagberu is a member, as his scholarly contributions, preaching, and teaching of Arabic and Islamic knowledge have always merited such recognition.”
Alapansanpa also extended congratulations to the Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, on this recognition of a distinguished citizen of Kwara State.
Engineer Alapansanpa further described Dr. Salman Solagberu, who is also the founder of the proposed Darul Kitab University in the Agbeyangi community of Ilorin, as a hardworking and exemplary scholar who has brought pride to Ilorin Emirate and Nigeria.
