Nigerian cloud security advocate, Ini-Obong Obot champions zero trust framework

As the world continues to embrace cybersecurity and draw attention to its significance, one individual from Nigeria is making significant strides in advocating for enhanced measures to secure cloud data.

Ini-Obong Obot, a fervent cloud security enthusiast, is spearheading the call for the adoption of a Zero Trust framework to safeguard critical information stored in the cloud.

With an extensive background in Cloud security, An MBA, A Masters in Information Science, Various Cloud Certifications from AWS, Azure and Oracle and a keen understanding of the intricate challenges posed by cloud computing, Ini-Obong Obot has emerged as a prominent figure in the global discourse on data protection.

His expertise and advocacy for the Zero Trust model have garnered widespread recognition, earning him accolades within the cloud security community.

The Zero Trust framework, a concept pioneered by Forrester Research analyst John Kindervag, challenges the traditional perimeter-based security approach by advocating for a “never trust, always verify” principle.

This model according to him, “dictates that organizations should not automatically trust any entity, whether internal or external, and must continuously authenticate and authorize every access request, regardless of its source or location”.

In tracking vulnerability exposure, he emphasised the relevance of the zero-trust approach in today’s digital landscape, where cyber threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated and pervasive.

He noted that “ relying solely on perimeter defences is no longer sufficient to protect sensitive data stored in cloud environments, especially with the growing prevalence of remote work and the proliferation of interconnected devices.

“In my recent article, I highlighted the importance of why cloud security and architecture matters and fostering a culture of security awareness and diligence within organizations.”

He emphasised that effective cybersecurity is a shared responsibility that extends beyond the purview of IT departments.

“My advocacy for the Zero Trust framework resonates strongly with industry experts and practitioners who recognize the imperative of adopting proactive measures to mitigate cybersecurity risks effectively. “

His passion for advancing cloud security practices underscores Nigeria’s growing influence in the global cybersecurity arena, positioning the country as a hub of innovation and expertise in combating digital threats.

As organizations worldwide grapple with the complexities of securing cloud data in an ever-evolving threat landscape, the insights and advocacy efforts of individuals like Ini-Obong Obot serve as a guiding light, paving the way for a more resilient and secure future in cyberspace.
