The Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards (NBMA) is set to make a grand comeback in February 2026, after an 11-year break. The prestigious awards ceremony will recognize excellence and innovation in Nigeria’s vibrant broadcast media industry.
According to Omogbolahan Akinwumi, Chief Operating Officer of NBMA, the return of the awards marks a new era for broadcasting recognition in Nigeria. This era will embrace today’s digital media evolution while honoring timeless values of professional excellence and audience engagement. The revamped NBMA will feature new categories, including awards for podcasters, digital content creators, and community broadcasters.
In 2026, the NBMA will introduce a new website for nominations, voting, and updates, which can be accessed via (link unavailable) The organizers are calling for corporate sponsors and volunteers to support the event, aiming to make this return truly historic.
“We’re thrilled to bring back the NBMA after more than a decade of reflection, restructuring, and visioning,” Akinwumi stated. “The return of the NBMA marks a new era for broadcasting recognition in Nigeria – one that embraces today’s digital media evolution while honouring the timeless values of professional excellence and audience engagement.”
