The Nigerian-American based gospel singer and evangelist, John Kola-Idowu, has generously donated two motorized borehole water projects to the residents of Ikire in the Irewole local government area of Osun state. The aim is to alleviate the burden of traveling countless miles to obtain drinkable water for consumption.
The two borehole water projects, located at Sango in Ikire and named after the late Mrs. Susan Idowu, were funded in collaboration with his siblings.
During the commissioning of the project, Kola-Idowu explained, “The motive behind my gesture was to assist the needy in our community. This is what my mother, Susan Silifa Idowu nee Kujore, was known for. She was a philanthropist, a destiny helper who was renowned for aiding those around her.”
Reflecting on his childhood, Kola-Idowu shared, “My siblings and I grew up; I was a 6-year-old boy, and my younger sister, the last born, was just 2 years old. It is with the glory of God that we are where we are today.”
“We were at a tender age when we lost our mother, and you can imagine the challenges faced by motherless children in a polygamous family. However, we thank God that the family was blessed with generosity.”
“The 2-year-old baby then is now 52 years old and a grandma living in the Republic of Ireland. I thank God for our lives. There were numerous challenges, but we managed to overcome them with His grace,” he added.
“Mama was a philanthropist who impacted many lives before her demise. Mama Susan Idowu was a Midwife in Ijebu Igbo before she got married to Chief G A Idowu, a medical practitioner in Ikire.
While handing over the project to the community and urging them to ensure its functionality through proper maintenance, he pledged to be more committed and dedicated to improving the welfare of the town.
He emphasized that he had no choice in the matter, as it is his contribution to the development of the sleepy community.
The gospel singer also distributed rice palliatives to over 300 residents of the town as relief amid the current economic hardships in the country. He mentioned that his visit to the town was to commemorate the 50-year remembrance of his late mother, Mrs. Susan Silifa Idowu nee Kujore.
