THE Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, on Saturday, said the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has played a substantial role in tackling the challenges facing Nigeria and would continue to do its best to defend the territorial integrity of the country.
He, however, disclosed that the three newly established NAF units in Kerang, Gusau and Owerri had settled down and started contributing to security in the respective states.
Air Marshal Abubakar stated this during the 2017 Second Quarter meeting with Branch Chiefs, Air Officers Commanding (AOCs), Commandants and Commanders of various Nigerian Air Force (NAF) formations in Kaduna.
According to a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, a copy of which was made available to Tribune Online, on Saturday in Abuja, the purpose of the meeting was to appraise the overall performance of the NAF so far, identify gaps, review strategies and make projections for the next quarter.
Accordingly, the meeting focused on operational activities, especially as it pertains to Internal Security, aircraft serviceability status, condition of facilities and other logistics issues, welfare of personnel, discipline, maintenance of standards, and judicious management of resources even as the AOCs gave accounts of stewardship in their various commands.
The CAS emphasized the importance of regular meetings with field commanders in order to obtain feedback that would help to set new targets.
While commenting on NAF participation in Internal Security operations, he said
The meeting was quite fruitful as significant decisions were reached, based on feedbacks obtained from the field commanders.
