The Catholic Bishop of Jalingo Diocese, Most. Rev. Charles Hamawa, on Tuesday, decried that successive administrations have failed to develop Taraba, making it the poorest in terms of development amongst Nigerian states.

The Bishop made the comment while interacting with journalists shortly after the Independence Anniversary Thanksgiving and Inauguration Service of the newly elected officials of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Taraba State Chapter in Jalingo.

Hamawa expressed dismay that transformational ideologies and developmental projects have failed, shot in the eyes by the political class in Taraba, to build a state that the general yet unborn will ride on.

He urged the political class to prioritize development in governance to change the place of Taraba on the global ranking of Nigeria states, in terms of development.

“I am afraid but must confess here that development in Taraba state is very poor.”

“Successive administrations have failed to develop the state. The political class needs to step up and build a Taraba that generation yet unborn will be proud and ride on,” the Bishop lamented.

The Catholic Bishop, while saluting Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 65th anniversary, he called on the leaders to utilize the rich resources available in the country to build a nation that would not only be the giant of Africa but of the world.

He also appealed to citizens to prioritise peace and embrace the spirit of coexistence among ethnic to attract the desired development of Nigeria.

“Though we have made some impactful progress within 65 years, our leaders need to step up. We have everything in Nigeria; they should use the available resources and make Nigeria to be a giant of the world,” the Bishop demanded.
