The Nigeria Red Cross Society (NRCS) has called for support to address the growing humanitarian challenges in the country, as it emphasized the need for collective action to help vulnerable populations, including displaced persons, orphans, and those affected by poverty and hunger.
The President of the NRCS, Oluyemisi Adeaga made the call at the investiture ceremony of a humanitarian and Philanthropist, Faith Morey- as an Ambassador of the Nigeria Red Cross Society.
Faith is a Nigerian model, entrepreneur, actress, and humanitarian. She runs her Okachi Charity Foundation- which strives to provide educational opportunities and support to vulnerable and disadvantaged children.
She has a history of educating underserved communities, supporting low-income families, and sending out-of-school children back to the classrooms. Her influence, combined with her humanitarian track record, will make her a powerful advocate for the Red Cross mission—especially as disasters intensify.
While speaking further, Adeaga said, there are a lot of people to help, saying, “We believe that those who work for humanity are working for God, and their name will be with God, not in gold that can be stolen or any structure that can be put down at any moment.”
According to him, “Nigeria Red Cross Society is currently raising funds to acquire a property for its national headquarters, which has been without a permanent location since 2003.
“The organization is seeking to raise 2 billion Naira to purchase the property and is calling on stakeholders to support its efforts.”
“We need a lot of advocacy, and we believe that you, our friends in the press, can help us generate the necessary funds. We want to appeal to you to team up with us to raise this fund very quickly.”
Adeaga also highlighted the importance of humanitarian work and the need for collective action to address the growing challenges facing the country.
“The world is becoming more wicked, governments are becoming more careless, and community leaders are becoming more apathetic. It’s expanding the field of humanitarian challenges, and we need to rethink our approach to addressing these issues.”
The organization’s leadership emphasized the importance of treating vulnerable populations with dignity and respect, and ensuring that they receive the help they need without feeling like beggars.
“We treat the vulnerable with dignity, with respect. They are not made to think that they are beggars. No, they are not. They need help, and they have to be helped because they are human beings, and we are also human beings.” He explained.
The Nigeria Red Cross Society is calling on stakeholders to support its efforts to address the growing humanitarian challenges in the country and to help raise the necessary funds to acquire a property for its national headquarters.
In her acceptance speech, Faith Morey, expressed her deep gratitude and humility, acknowledging the honor of serving as an Ambassador for the esteemed organization.
“The Red Cross exists on one simple truth: every human life matters,” Morey said, highlighting the organization’s commitment to compassion and humanity.
“It does not ask who you are or where you come from; it simply responds with dignity, love, and presence.”
As Ambassador, Morey pledged to champion the causes of the NRCS, particularly the quiet and unseen struggles of people whose names may never be known.
“I accept this role with humility, but also with determination,” she said. “I pledge to serve with integrity, to inspire the next generation to lead with compassion, and to carry the banner of the Red Cross with the same dignity it has carried for generations.”
Morey emphasized the importance of humanity and compassion, citing her own experiences as a philanthropist and mother. “Every child, no matter where they are born, carries within them the promise of tomorrow if only we create the right conditions for them to thrive,” she said.
The new Ambassador expressed her commitment to bringing voice and visibility to the mission of the NRCS, reminding the world that humanity is not an abstract concept, but a daily choice.
“Each of us has the power to reflect the same principles that the Red Cross stands for: neutrality, independence, impartiality, humanity,” she said.
Morey dedicated her name, voice, and platform to a cause greater than herself, inspired by the values instilled in her by her grandmother. “Integrity is better than money, and a good name will take you to rooms that money cannot. “Today, I dedicate this name, this voice, and this platform to a cause greater than myself.”
