He stated this last Sunday at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Umuahia, where he also reminded mothers to continue to work towards making positive impact in their homes, which would have effect on national life.
“When we raise families in God’s way and teach family members the commands of God, His love will grow in their hearts for one another,” he stated.
He noted that this year’s celebration was unique in the sense that mothers received several honours, special gifts and support from their respective families.
In a sermon which had its theme, Wise Women Still Seek Jesus, wife of the vicar/vice-president, St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Mrs Joy Eche, said the occasion called for a sober reflection.
While appreciating God for His mercy and grace to mothers, she stated that the decadence in the society called for a change of approach, noting that the aim of the annual celebration was to appreciate the biblical concept of the family; learn the principle of Christian family life, as well as to embrace love as members of the same family.
Eche, who enjoined mothers to live exemplary lives, said the signs of the end time had come into manifest, hence the need to take proactive measures in raising children.
She also appreciated fathers for their support.
Speaking at the event, a member of the church, Mr Ikechukwu Iheze, expressed gratitude to God that mothers were alive to witness the celebration.
He described the event as rewarding, noting that mothers were, no doubt, pillars of the family, hence the need for the society to appreciate and honour them at all times.
Warning youths on the dangers of neglecting mothers, Iheze observed that mothers should be rewarded for the immense support and contributions offered in the family and prayed for God’s sustenance upon them.
The celebration featured cutting of cake, presentation of gifts to mothers, among other side attractions.
