Peter Obi, Nigeria’s 2027 presidential aspirant, has declared unequivocally that fighting corruption is not a difficult thing to do in Nigeria, as it demands only the political will to do so.
He made the declaration while speaking to Students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, on Friday.
The programme was a talk session with the topic: ‘Youths and Leadership Opportunities’ organised by Forum of SUG Presidents, Bauchi, led by Citizen Fahad Abdullahi, SUG President, ATBU, Bauchi.
According to him, “It is a very simple thing to fight corruption in Nigeria, it only demands that the head/leader must be ready to do the real fight. Corruption is hydra headed and must be fought very well.”
“If I as the President is not corrupt, my wife is not corrupt and my children are not corrupt, then 60 percent of the fight against corruption has been won,” Peter Obi opined.
He stated that Nigeria needs the determination to overcome corruption that has engulfed the entire system of the country, without which it will reach a situation where the system will be completely grounded.
Peter Obi also reiterated that he does not need more than 4 years to fix some of the major problems militating against the development of the country, stressing that those 4 years are enough to have an impact on Nigerians.
“I will not stay a day longer than 4 years if I have the opportunity to serve as Nigeria’s President. It might be less than 4 years, but, definitely not more than,” Peter Obi said.
He lamented the decay in the education sector in the country, which he said needs urgent attention to be fixed to have a more functional system that will produce the best brains for the country.
He said that, “In our years in school, we had everything going well for us, we could afford to have what we wanted at the time we needed it. In fact, it took me a long time to realise that I was entitled to drink because it had been paid for.”
Peter Obi charged the students to be disciplined and dedicated to their studies, avoid joining cults and engaging in other vices that will disrupt their academic pursuit.
He assured that if elected Nigeria’s President in 2027, his focus would be on restoring the education sector to an enviable position that it was in the past.
Peter Obi took time to respond to all the questions asked by the students, stressing that leadership is all about accountability and honest response to issues.
Earlier, President of the Students Union Government (SUG), ATBU, Citizen Fahad, stated that the programme was organised to serve as an avenue to share ideas, especially as regards the development of education in the country.
He pointed out that Peter Obi was invited based on his antecedents as a leader with an unblemished record of service over the years and an epitome of leadership example.
The SUG President assured that the Students’ Union as a movement is solidly behind the struggles of Pete Obi and will always support him at all times.
