Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has made history by becoming the first Nigerian Foreign Minister to visit Kuwait since the establishment of diplomatic relations 55 years ago.
His landmark working visit, which runs from February 5 to 8, 2025, aims to strengthen bilateral ties between Nigeria and the Gulf nation.
A statement by the Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy to the Minister, Alkasim Abdulkadir disclosed that during his visit, Ambassador Tuggar will engage in strategic discussions with his Kuwaiti counterpart, Ambassador Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, and sign key bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs).
“The agreements will establish a Joint Commission for Cooperation to provide a framework for stronger bilateral ties, strengthen diplomatic engagements between both foreign ministries through a bilateral consultations MoU, and enhance capacity building and diplomatic expertise exchange through a Diplomatic Training Cooperation MoU.”
“Ambassador Tuggar will also meet with high-ranking Kuwaiti officials, including the Prime Minister, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and the Amir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
“Additionally, he will discuss economic, trade, investment, science, technology, and agricultural cooperation agreements with Kuwait’s Minister of Petroleum, Tariq Suleiman Al-Roumi, and the Director-General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), Waleed Al-Bahar.”
The visit is expected to strengthen diplomatic, economic, and investment ties between Nigeria and Kuwait, opening new avenues for cooperation across multiple sectors.
