A group, the North-East Concerned Citizens Association, in collaboration with Shehu Buba Ambassadors, the Amalgamation of Tailoring and Design Garment Association, and the Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Bauchi State, has stated that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria has witnessed a more vigorous and coordinated effort in combating insecurity and banditry.
This assertion was made during a press conference held on Friday at the NUJ Press Centre, Bauchi.
The group commended the President for addressing the nation’s security challenges, stating that Nigerians are increasingly able to go about their daily legitimate businesses without fear.
Comrade Mubarak Inuwa Gorama, Coordinator of the group, who read the press statement, said: “It is worthy of note that under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria has witnessed renewed vigour in the war against insecurity.”
He added:“The President’s firm support for reforms in the security sector, coupled with his approval of critical interventions, has created an enabling environment for sustainable peace-building efforts across the country.”
Explaining the purpose of the gathering, he said: “We are gathered here today under the banner of the North-East Concerned Citizens Association, in collaboration with Shehu Buba Ambassadors, the Amalgamation of Tailoring and Design Garment Association, and the Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Bauchi State, to address a matter of grave concern.”
According to him, “Recently, certain malicious and politically motivated allegations have sought to link Distinguished Senator Shehu Buba Umar with banditry. These claims are not only false but appear to be a calculated attempt to tarnish the reputation of a man known for his dedication to public service, national security, and patriotism.”
He continued: “For the avoidance of doubt, Distinguished Senator Shehu Buba Umar has consistently demonstrated leadership in the fight against insecurity. As Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, he has been at the forefront of advocating for innovative strategies that go beyond the use of force.”
Comrade Gorama further emphasized: “He has consistently argued, both in the Senate and during public engagements, that Nigeria must adopt a blend of kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to achieve lasting peace. He has championed dialogue, reconciliation, and socio-economic renewal as essential tools alongside military action. His non-kinetic advocacy is already shaping national policy.”
He also noted: “Recently, we saw how Senator Buba’s collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser and other stakeholders has contributed to a more balanced and effective approach to security management.”
He commended Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, for his leadership and support: “His pragmatic leadership, openness to innovative ideas, and unwavering commitment to national security have been instrumental in translating Senator Buba’s proposals into actionable policy.”
The group highlighted that civil society networks across the country have recognized the positive impact of these strategies, pointing to a gradual reduction in violent incidents in previously troubled communities.
“This is a clear testimony that Senator Buba’s vision is not mere rhetoric, but a tested and effective model aligned with global best practices,” Gorama stated.
He further highlighted Senator Buba’s direct involvement on the ground: “In Bauchi State and beyond, Senator Buba has consistently demonstrated leadership. Following attacks in Garin Mansur, Alkaleri Local Government Area, he personally led a delegation to condole with affected families and engage with hunters, security operatives, and community leaders.”
“His message was clear: insecurity must never be politicized, and only through collective effort can it be overcome. This act of leadership speaks louder than the falsehoods being circulated.”
Comrade Gorama also emphasized Senator Buba’s impact on development: “Senator Buba’s contributions to community development are visible across Bauchi South—from road construction to agricultural support and youth empowerment initiatives. His work directly addresses the socio-economic roots of insecurity.”
He questioned the motives behind the allegations: “How can anyone in good conscience associate him with the very menace he has consistently fought to eradicate? These baseless allegations should be seen for what they are: cheap political blackmail. They appear to be driven by fear of Senator Buba’s rising popularity and the strong prospects of his success in the 2027 elections.”
He concluded: “Senator Shehu Buba Umar remains one of the most consistent voices for peace and stability in Nigeria. His leadership gives hope that our country can overcome its current security challenges.”
The group urged citizens to remain vigilant and reject divisive narratives: “We call on all Nigerians to disregard these fabrications, remain united, and continue to support all genuine efforts to restore peace and foster development. The struggle for a secure and prosperous Nigeria is far from over—it has only just begun.”
