Niger gov, Umaru Bago, wins VOA Canada award

Niger State Governor, Farmer Umaru Bago, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Voice of Africa (VOA) Canada Torchbearer Award in recognition of his exceptional leadership and commitment to agriculture, food security, and infrastructural development within the state.

This announcement was made in a statement issued to newsmen by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Bologi Ibrahim.

According to the statement, “The VOA Canada Torchbearer Award honours individuals and organizations making significant contributions to Black communities worldwide.”

Based in Toronto, VOA Canada aims to promote African content and encourage collaboration between African and Canadian entities.

Governor Bago’s dedication to advancing agricultural development and good governance has earned him this notable accolade.

The statement highlighted that “under Governor Bago’s leadership, Niger State has experienced transformative changes in agriculture, enhancing food security and empowering local communities.

His administration has also initiated crucial infrastructure projects that improve connectivity and boost economic prospects.”

In his acceptance speech, Governor Bago expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with national and international stakeholders, particularly the Canadian business community, to promote food security and economic opportunities in Niger State.
