A Magistrate Court 8 sitting in Minna, Niger State capital, has granted bail to 26-year-old Mohammed Abba Yahaya, following his arraignment before the Court for causing grievous hurt to his ex-lover and a 400-level undergraduate female student of the state-owned Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai, Miss Hassana Sani.
The suspect, a resident of Tungan Goro area in Chanchaga Local Government Area of the state, according to police reports, was believed to be a former boyfriend of the victim, Hassana Sani, and was alleged to have sometimes last month attacked the victim and collected her mobile phone valued at N210,000.00 (two hundred and ten thousand naira) and inflicted serious injuries on her right eye.
The report further indicated that the mother of the victim, Fatima Sani, who is a widow reported the matter at Chanchaga Police Division, and later referred to Police SCID, Minna for investigation.
The offence, according to the Police, contravenes sections (2) two,(4)four, and (7) seven of the penal code law of Nigeria.
The Suspect had earlier pleaded guilty to the offence during the first mention of the case and was remanded in prison custody.
Ruling on the bail application, the Presiding Magistrate, Hajiya Samira Wambai granted the bail of the suspect and adjourned the case to fifteen(15th) of next month for hearing.
