Niger civil servants to receive 90% salary

Published by

Niger State governor, Sani Bello said that civil servants in the State would henceforth receive 90 per cent of salaries, as against 70 per cent paid to them in June. According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he explained that this was in view of the budget support from the Federal Government to states.

Bello, who announced this at a meeting with traditional rulers in Minna on Monday, said it was also the result of consultations with the labour unions in the state.

He said “Seventy per cent of all incomes accruing to the state through the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and 30 per cent from budget support would be given to Nigerian Labour Congress(NLC) to pay salaries,.

“The 70 and 30 per cents would pay 90 per cent of workers basic salary. I appeal to all civil servants to understand the sacrifice we have asked of them, and even ourselves,” he said.

Bello called on traditional rulers and religious leaders to pray for the state, urging them to be security-conscious in their communities.

The leader of the traditional rulers, Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, called on the people to continue to support the administration to overcome its economic challenges.

“As council of traditional rulers, we pledge our loyalty to ensure this administration success and to overcome the present economic hardship,” he said.
