NGO trains women on ICT, skills acquisition

MRS Wunmi Hassan, the President Hi-Tech Centre for Women and Youths, an (NGO) on Friday said the centre was currently training over 100 women in ICT and different skills.

Hassan, who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Abuja (NAN) in Abuja, said that the centre was carrying out the training with the support of Intel Corporation, an American Multinational and technology company.

According to her, the training which is tagged: “Raised Women Entrepreneur’’ started about a month ago and for women entrepreneurs from 18 years and above.

Hassan said that the training opportunity was aimed at 2000 women using ICT tools for business growth and entrepreneurial skills.

She said that the training would avail the women the opportunity to learn how to be entrepreneurs with at least 500 women, each specialising in different skills.

She said that the women were being trained in digital literacy, on ICT, agric business development, fashion, catering and pastries.

“We came up with the idea when we realised that a lot of people have businesses but don’t know how to scale up in terms of sustainability that makes them deficiency.

“But with the support of Intel we have begun this training where women can learn any trade of their choice.

“They now understand using ICT to promote, build their business and develop more capability and to link up with other partners anywhere in the world.

“Over I00 women were trained in July and for us to move the country to where we ought to be and to diversify our economy, we need to a raise group of entrepreneurs who have businesses that are sustainable,’’ she said.

Hassan said that the training would run till the end of October and be held in Abuja and some other states in the country.
