New Yam Festival: Gombe SSG harps on peaceful co-existence, unity

Secretary to Gombe State Government (SSG) and the Ikemba Ndigbo, Gombe State, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi has harped on peaceful coexistence and unity among the diversified ethnic groupings in the country irrespective of religious differences.

The SSG made the call on Sunday when he felicitated with the Igbo community in the state on the celebration of the 2024 New Yam festival held in Gombe.

Abubakar Njodi who was represented at the event by the Senior Special Assistant, General Duties to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Yakubu Sarma stressed the need for peace and unity for which the festival represents.

He remarked that the state government under the leadership of Governor Inuwa Yahaya has created an enabling environment for businesses to thrive making the state a business hub.

He also advised Igbo community known for their business enterprises to take advantage of the friendly environment and conduct legitimate enterprises.

The SSG further assured the Igbo community in the State of his continued support given his disposition as a titled Man within Igbo.

He appreciated the Igbo community for their unwavering support to the present administration under the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

Yakubu Sarma who equally delivered the Deputy Governor’s goodwill message and that of the State Accountant General also received on behalf of the State Accountant General, Dr Aminu Yuguda a traditional title of ” Emhi Oha Ndigbo, meaning the ‘Friend of the Igbo.

The title was given to the State Accountant General based on his immense service to humanity and for his support to the Igbo community.

Both the Deputy Governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, the SSG, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi and the Accountant General of Gombe State, Dr Aminu Yuguda made donations to support the Igbo welfare Association and the organisers of the event.

The special Adviser to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya on Intercommunity Relations and Guest Speaker at the occasion, Prince Dr Cornelius Ewuzie Chicmark thanked guests who made it to the occasion and commended Governor Yahaya for his developmental stride in the State.

He stressed the importance of the new Yam Festival in Igbo culture and further assured of Igbo’s and other none indigenous tribes residing in Gombe of their unrelenting support to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s led administration.

The event which attracted array of dignitaries had the representative of the Emir of Gombe, Dr Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hon Asama’u Iganus who is equally the Ada Ugo Ndigbo and Yusuf Danbayo, SSA to Governor Yahaya on Security among others as contained in a statement by Joshua Danmallam, Information Officer, SSG’s office.
