Governor Willie Obiano said Anambra State Government, said he will be the first to pay the new National minimum wage of 30,000 once is assent by President Mohammadu Buhari.
Governor Obiano gave the hint at the Jerome Udoji state Secretariat Awka, during a parley with State Civil Servants ahead of March 9, 2019, House of Assembly election in the state.
Civil servants from Ministries, Departments and Agencies thronged the Secretariat to welcome the Governor who canvassed for their support.
The Governor reiterated that the welfare of the State workforce has been paramount to his administration, stressing that such has been possible because the House of Assembly is made up of APGA members.
He explained that electing Legislators from opposition parties will derail his welfares policies, especially the salaries, gratuities and pensions of civil servants.

While declaring Friday work-free day for workers to enable them to prepare for Saturday’s election, Governor Obiano said that the minimum wage is over one billion naira addition, saying that State government has received the report by the Labour Committee, but will commence its an implementation to address workers’ grievances and agitations.
The Head of Service, Barrister Harry Udu assured that the State workforce is ready to follow the Governor because of his numerous welfare packages to Anambra State workers, highlighting some of them to include payment of salaries, pensions, gratuities, Christmas largesse, and ongoing renovation of the Secretariat, among others.
In his part, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr Jerry Nnubia said that because the Governor has agreed and pronounced that he will be the first to pay the New National Minimum wage, civil servants in the State should rally support for APGA candidates to ensure consolidation of his good works.
