The newly posted Comptroller of Customs to Kebbi State Area Command, Mahmoud Matawale Ibrahim, has stated that he would have no tolerance for indiscipline, smuggling, or activities lacking integrity among officers and men of the Command.
Ibrahim made this known early in the week during the handover of the command symbol of authority between him and the outgoing Comptroller, Chidi Nwaokori, at the Conference Room of the Area Command, Birnin-Kebbi.
He further emphasised that revenue collection would be based on transparency to ensure accountability through data-driven strategies, noting that the Kebbi State borders are strategic for Nigeria, and close border patrols would be maintained with other security agencies.
“I will prioritise the welfare and promotion of officers and motivate professionalism because officers are the backbone of this Command, creating a favourable environment for optimal performance.
“Outstanding performance will be recognised and rewarded, while stakeholders are expected to be more transparent and abide by the policies of the Command,” he said.
In his farewell speech, the outgoing Comptroller, Chidi Nwaokori, thanked and appreciated officers and men of the Command for the cooperation he received from them, noting that anyone who felt offended by his conduct should understand it was not intentional but rather in the line of duty.
“Establishing the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) office in this Command, the first of its kind here, was a big achievement for me in my seven months of stay. Also, introducing compulsory sporting activities among officers is a thing of joy to me,” he said.
