Enugu State chapter of the All Progressive Congress( APC), has said that it was poised to take over the state at the 2023 general elections.
The newly elected State Executive Committee of the APC in the state on Wednesday declared that the party was now poised to take over the reins of leadership of the state from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The party made the declaration in a communiqué it issued at the end of its maiden State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting in Enugu, where it also set up three important committees including finance, contacts and mobilization, and reconciliation committees.
In the communiqué signed by the Chairman, Ugochukwu Agballah, and Secretary, Robert Ngwu, the APC said that the new executive, with Agballah as chairman, had taken full control of the party structure in the state following their emergence at the October 16 state congress.
The communiqué stated that the new leadership of APC would re-engineer and reposition the party to play its role as a strong and credible opposition party, poised to take over reins of power in the state.
They further declared that the party was in a very good position to challenge the ruling PDP in the state, capitalizing on the dwindling electoral value of PDP among the citizenry.
“In that vein, we will highlight the abysmal performance of PDP in Enugu State in particular and the South-East in general.
“The APC Enugu state hereby calls on members and residents of the state who are yet to register or apply for transfer of voter card to do so, taking advantage of the ongoing INEC voter registration exercise.
“Our vote is the only weapon we have against bad governance and political tyranny.
“That the new leadership, in her determination to re-energize all organs of the party in the state, has directed the compulsory holding of the monthly ward, local government and zonal meetings of the party,
While the state working committee and state executive committee would also meet regularly.
“The party has reestablished the statutory monthly payment of dues by members, stakeholders, and former/present political appointees of the party. The exact dues will soon be worked out for the various categories. This will ensure equal ownership of the party by all and not few stakeholders, as well as self-funding and internal revenue for the party,” the communiqué stated.
The new leadership resolved to set up three standing committees; finance committee, for continuous fund drive for the running of the party and execution of important party programmes and projects; contacts and mobilization committee, to continue to canvas and win new members; and reconciliation committee to reach out to aggrieved members.
The party directed the ward, LG and zonal leadership of the party to establish offices at strategic locations, preferably, at buildings along major roads, with party flags mounted conspicuously.
“The ward and local government executives have been directed to go back and start genuine reconciliation and harmonization across the rank and file of the Party. Members of the Party are hereby directed to cease and desist from all libellous social media attacks against APC Leaders and Members. All future attacks should be channelled to the opposition party. Henceforth, any attack on leaders and members of the Party in Enugu State will be severely sanctioned.
Earlier, the party chairman, Agballah, expressed gratitude to God for the peaceful ward, local government and state congresses of the party in the state and promised to run a transparent, disciplined, and inclusive administration of the party in the state, even as he promised Enugu people that the new exco represents a new dawn in the state to offer them an alternative platform that will take the state to a new level of socio-economic development.
