New AIG for Zone 2 vows to eradicate crime in Lagos, Ogun

The new Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, which includes Lagos and Ogun States, has pledged to eradicate criminal activities in the region.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after assuming office at the Zone 2 command headquarters in Onikan, Lagos State, on Tuesday, the AIG issued a stern warning to criminals, urging them to stay away from the states under his jurisdiction.

AIG Fayoade assured residents of Lagos and Ogun States that the zone will be accountable and work closely with them to ensure the security of lives and property.

He emphasised, “I will leverage on where the problems are, and carry along the two commissioners of police in the zone. We will put heads together and make sure that issues that concern some areas, in terms of crimes, are adequately nipped in the bud and taken care of.”

The new Zone 2 police chief further stated, “Summarily, my coming here is to determine work and make sure that crimes and criminal activities in these two states are reduced to the barest minimum. Secondly, to ensure that we collaborate, we will work with the members of the public and build trust between the members of the public and the police.”

AIG Fayoade highlighted his commitment to building trust and his reliance on intelligence and information from the public to combat crime effectively.

He also commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, for appointing him to Zone 2.

“I want to start by appreciating my Inspector General of Police, Federal Republic of Nigeria, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for deeming it fit to post me to this zone, as AIG Zone 2.

“It is indeed a great honour that I am posted here, and I will not take the opportunity for granted. I see my posting as a challenge, a challenge to make sure that I add quality and value to the security situation in both Lagos and Ogun States,” he said.
