The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has started training beneficiaries in Ekiti State under the second phase of the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative.
Director General of NDE, Silas Ali Agara, said at the flag-off in Ado-Ekiti that the scheme is working to fulfill its mandate of creating employment opportunities for youths in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Agara, represented by Acting State Coordinator Orelusi Michael Omoniyu, noted that the first phase of the programme trained 32,692 unskilled and unemployed Nigerians in demand-driven skills across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
He explained that the second phase will cover over 41,307 people in more than 30 skill areas, including vocational, entrepreneurial, agricultural, ICT, and public works activities.
According to him, the beneficiaries will be drawn from all 8,809 political wards nationwide. He said, “a total number of 14,457 beneficiaries are expected to be resettled with starter packs to help them establish themselves in their chosen fields.”
The DG said, “the strategic goals were increasing trainee employability, supporting small-scale enterprises, promoting agricultural productivity, improving rural infrastructure and providing transient jobs.
“It is our sincere expectation that the participants would be equipped positively with skills to enhance their employability, foster entrepreneurship mindsets in them and improve livelihoods to contribute to their communities and the economic growth of the Nation.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda among other objectives; emphasizes economic growth, job creation and poverty alleviation.
“The NDE, despite the challenges of limited budgetary resources, remains committed to equipping unemployed Nigerians with demand-driven skill sets, in order to empower these individuals to become employers of labour and wealth creators in the nearest future.”
He appealed to the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the training to acquire the skills needed to transform their lives and contribute to economic development in the country.
