NCNE pledges regular training, retraining of personnel for effective performance

The National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE) has pledged to ensure regular training and retraining of its personnel to enhance service delivery.

NCNE’s Executive Secretary, Prof Bashir Usman-Haruna, made the promise in Kano on Wednesday, during the opening of a three-day workshop on advocacy, mobilisation and sensitisation for re-modelling of grazing reserves into ranches.

Usman-Haruna said the workshop was aimed at curtailing conflicts between farmers and herdsmen across the country.

“This workshop is designed for staff of the commission with the aim of stepping down the training to their various stations, targeted at promoting nomadic education in the country.

“The workshop will fine-tune modalities of addressing the prevalence of farmers-herdsmen conflicts which hinders the development of nomadic education in many parts of the country.

“The commission is mapping out strategies of re-modelling grazing reserves into ranches so that the nomads could have easy access to infrastructure and government interventions,’’ he said.

He said the measure would go a long way in uplifting the living standard of nomads as well as curtail the challenge of illiteracy among them.

In her remark, the state Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Aisha Jafar, said that Kano State Government was committed to providing the needed materials for the development of nomadic education in the state.

Jafar, represented by Hamza Dauda, said there were 324 nomadic schools in Kano state.

She said that despite the numerous challenges the scheme was facing, a lot had been achieved in the state, especially in the area of effective service delivery.

The commissioner gave the assurance that the state government would continue to support the commission to achieve the desired goals.

The workshop which attracted participants from the six geopolitical zones of the federation is expected to come up with modalities that will move nomadic education forward.
