The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in Nigeria has finally been admitted to World Skills International (WSI) in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Fatima Abubakar, Head of the Media Unit at NBTE, and made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Sunday.
The statement noted, “The confirmation was contained in a letter dated August 20, 2024, addressed to the board and signed by Mr. David Hoey, CEO of the WorldSkills International Secretariat, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.”
The statement revealed Nigeria’s admission into the world body’s membership, with representation by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), adding, “A membership certificate has also been issued, jointly signed by the WSI President and CEO.”
“This is a great opportunity for Nigeria, not only to participate in World Skills Competitions but also to benefit from training, mentorship, and scholarships in skills development.”
It added, “The journey began more than 10 years ago, and only now has this feat been achieved. WorldSkills Nigeria has now been realized.”
“The Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris Bugaje, expresses appreciation for the support received from the Honorable Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, SAN, and the Team Nigeria led by Mrs. Yemisi Akinrinade, who diligently worked towards this achievement.”

According to him, “Nigerian youths now have an opportunity to shine on the world stage, using innovations in skills development as a tool to bring accolades to our dear nation.”
“Governments and the private sector are called upon to support the programs of WorldSkills Nigeria and encourage the youth to make skills their first career choice to turn around Nigeria’s fortunes.”
