The National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) is set to collaborate with the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) in Katsina State to enhance research capabilities and promote innovation for sustainable economic growth.
This was disclosed during a visit by FUDMA’s Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aminu Ado, and his team to NBRDA.
The visit aimed to explore potential collaborations in biotechnology, agriculture, renewable energy, and product commercialisation. Key focus areas include strengthening research capacity, providing essential biotechnology tools, modernising agricultural practices, and developing renewable energy products.
Professor Ado expressed appreciation to the DG for his openness to partnership and stressed the need for results-oriented research.
“We need collaboration that transforms research beyond paper certifications into products that improve livelihoods. Our goal is to build capacity, adopt modern biotechnology, and contribute meaningfully to the economy,” Ado said.
In his remarks, Professor Mustapha reaffirmed NBRDA’s commitment to product-driven research. He cited the agency’s ongoing projects, such as establishing a startup for insulin production and partnership for manufacturing antiretroviral drugs, as examples of research being translated into viable industrial outcomes.
“At NBRDA, we are committed to research that fuels industry, creates jobs, and addresses national needs in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Mustapha noted.
The partnership will also provide opportunities for staff and students of FUDMA to engage in NBRDA’s upcoming Hands-on molecular biology workshop, access advanced research platforms, and contribute to joint innovation efforts.
To formalise the partnership, a joint committee has been established to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions.
The committee will define a framework for collaboration, identify priority research areas, and coordinate the implementation of joint initiatives.
