The Nigeria Association of Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra State Chapter has said it would on Wednesday March 19, 2025 honour the wife of the State governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, Chief Dr Mrs Flora Ilonzo, late Professor Dora Akunyili and others with various achievements awards.
According to the State Chairperson, NAWOJ, Comrade Tochukwu Ifejika, the ceremony holding tomorrow in Awka, the State Capital would have late NAFDAC boss, Akunyili receiving a legend award, while the Living Legend Award will be bestowed on Hon. Ada Adogu, first Anambra Female Minister of the federal republic of Nigeria, dame Dr Virgy Etiaba, first female governor in Nigeria, Prof Chinyere Stella Okunna, first female Prof. of Mass Communication sub-Saharan Africa, among others.
Others are Anambra Female Achiever award meant for governor Chukwuma Soludo’s wife, Dr Nonye, including the former Senator of Anambra North, Sen. Margrey Chuba-Okadigbo; Prof Oby Lilian Orogbu of Awka North/Awka South federal Constituency; the first female artist in old Eastern Nigeria, Chief Dr Flora Ilonzo; Dr. Kanayo Chukwurah, Dr Justina Anyadiegwu, and Dr Rita Njideka Chikezie.
This according to her, was part of their activities to mark International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration earlier observed by the United Nations on March 8 all over the world under the theme; Accelerate action on gender equality with a sub-theme – projecting Anambra Female Achievers (yesterday, today and tomorrow) designed by NAWOJ.
“In this year’s celebration, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) will showcase and give an award of recognition to Anambra women who in their various endeavors have carved out a niche for themselves and come tops in a seemingly male-dominated world to inspire the teeming young Anambra Women aspiring to hold their own in the same spheres.
“We are using this medium to call on Ndi Anambra to come out in their numbers and behold their women who in every sense of the word achievement have made it and will help to spur Anambra Women to accelerate action on the drive to attain gender equality in terms of giving equal opportunities to everyone irrespective of gender which in turn will eradicate gender biases, barrier and stereotypes,” she added.
