NAUS hails FG for releasing N50bn earned allowances to varsity staff members

The leadership of the National Association of University Students (NAUS) has commended the Federal Government of Nigeria for the release of N50 billion towards the settlement of earned allowances for academic and non-academic staff in federal universities.

NAUS President, Comrade Josiah Peter Oche, however, called on the Federal Government to ensure continuous dialogue with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other staff unions to foster enhanced industrial harmony in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

Oche described the announcement by the Minister of Education, Dr Olatunji Alausa, on Wednesday as more than just a financial intervention; rather, it serves as a clear demonstration of the present administration’s commitment to the advancement of tertiary education and the welfare of those who contribute to its success.

“This thoughtful gesture will significantly promote industrial harmony on our campuses, reduce the frequency of strikes, and help restore normalcy to the academic calendar.”

“NAUS acknowledges the tireless efforts of the Ministry of Education, Dr Maruf Alausa, and the goodwill of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in prioritising the education sector.”

“We urge that this momentum be sustained through continuous dialogue and proactive engagements with stakeholders in the university system.”

“We remain committed to advocating for the interests of Nigerian students and the overall improvement of our learning environment,” the NAUS President stated.
