Speaking with journalists in Ilorin after he led some other members of the committee for an oversight function to the university, Alhaji Suleiman said: “This is one of the beautiful factors that Unilorin enjoys.
“If the scenario is acceptable to students and the teachers, who are the National Assembly to say otherwise?
“The important things all of us must continue to work on to is to ensure that we introduce a system that will allow for continuous academic calendar without distraction. If we do that and nobody complains and nobody has reported to me, so for me, I continue to give kudos to Unilorin.”
On their visit, he said: “We are on a nationwide tour of all our institutions of higher learning as provided for by the law. This is for us to engage the leadership of all the institutions to know what are the challenges militating against teaching and learning and for us to confirm what we had been appropriating to them had been released by the executives and also to confirm whether those releases were utilized for the purpose for which they are provided in the first place. That is basically why we are here.
“We have observed that the management of this place as postulated by the VC are privileged to have received most of the funding for projects and there is no project that has not been completed. This is only one leg of why we are here.
“The second leg is also to engage by seeing real correspondences from them, or documentary evidence that suggest that appropriation on all the three key heads, personnel, capital and overheads are released.
“Of course based on what we had and what we heard from other places, the budget of 2016 has not been fully implemented to the letter. These are some of the findings that we are going to take back to the chambers for debate and further reference to the executive. We will continue to do things that will improve education in the country.”
