A socio-cultural group, the Ebira People’s Association (EPA) from the Central Senatorial District of Kogi State, has stated that the ongoing process to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the Senate is not only unnecessary but also potentially detrimental to their collective interest and image.
It may be recalled that the recall process began on Wednesday and is expected to conclude on Thursday across the five local government areas in the state.
The President-General of the association, Dr. Oyibo Godwin, made this known in a press statement issued on Thursday.
According to him, it is crucial for the people to recognize that their collective unity could be threatened by such a move.
The statement reads as follows:
“It has come to the attention of the leadership of the EPA that an attempt has been made to initiate a recall process against our Distinguished Senator, Barrister Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, from the National Assembly by some stakeholders in Kogi Central. Initially, we dismissed it as a rumor, but we have continued to receive calls and messages from concerned constituents of Kogi Central, both at home and in the diaspora, confirming the development.
“This situation is troubling, not only because of its potential impact on the peace of our district but also because it threatens the unity and cohesion that have prevailed in our land in recent times. We recall the solidarity of our people during the last governorship election in 2023 when we were confronted by individuals who referred to us as common enemies. It is too soon to sacrifice that unity.
“While the EPA acknowledges the right of individuals to hold different political views, we must emphasize that the issue at hand concerns our developmental interests. We must carefully consider our current and future options. Our senator has attracted significant development to Kogi Central, and we cannot overlook her achievements.
“Despite facing numerous challenges, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has remained a steadfast advocate for our cause, delivering numerous projects and amenities that have significantly improved the lives of her constituents.
“We urge all constituents to exercise extreme caution and not be swayed by external interests seeking to disrupt our peace and progress. We must recognize that this rumored recall process is not only unnecessary but also potentially harmful to our collective interest and image. It is crucial for us to understand that our unity could be undermined by such an action.
“We call on all constituents to remain vigilant, united, and committed to our shared vision of building a strong constituency where love and brotherhood prevail. We passionately appeal to everyone to stand firmly behind our senator, who has proven to be a true and worthy representative of our constituency. At this time, we must avoid unnecessary distractions.”
