Nasarawa guber candidates sign peace pact

TWENTY-EIGHT (28) gubernatorial candidates in Nasarawa State have signed a peace accord ahead of the forthcoming general election.

The signing of the peace pact was to ensure a violence-free election in the state.

Speaking during the occasion, at Taal conference hotel in Lafia the state capital, the state resident electoral commissioner, Dr Uthman Abdulrahaman Ajidagba, said it is no longer news that Nigeria’s election is mostly characterised by violence, destruction of properties and killings, which has prompted the signing of the pact.

“The commission has reason to be worried that seeds of discord and mayhem are being surreptitiously planted and constantly watered in Nigeria.

“One of the ways to mitigate the combustible eruption is to put heads together in unison and say no to violence hence the gathering,” he stated.

Earlier on, in a goodwill message, representative of Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) Alhaji Ibrahim Saleh Hassan said the event is organised in collaboration with the state INEC to put to paper on the commitment to the forthcoming electoral exercise in the state.

“The peace pact that you are signing today is an indication of your commitment to good conduct and readiness to adhere to co democratic tenant. We encourage you to please, for the sake of our children, women and even youth, abide by the content in this pact, for a better life,” he added.

Some of the political parties candidates present include; David Emmanuel Ombugadu, (PDP) Labaran Maku, (APGA) Ishak Kana (SDP) A A Sule (APC) among many others to mention.
