Nasarawa govt says Keana bridge intact

Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura

State government has dismissed a rumour that the Keana/Kadarko/Giza bridge in Keana Local Government Area of the state had been submerged.

There were reports emanating in the social media  that the bridge had been submerged after a downpour.

Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Honourable Mohammed Wada, debunked the statement, on Saturday in Lafia.

He explained that there was indeed a downpour which increased the volume of water in the river, but that the bridge was still far above the water.

He recalled that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) had predicted that 12 states, including Nasarawa State, would be affected by flood.

The commissioner explained that the state government carried out a survey on the capacity of the water and the strength of the soil before constructing the bridge.

Wada said pre-construction activities were carried out on the bridge , and that it would last for more than 50 years.

“ Every river has a return or recurrent period. This is a period where the river gets a large volume of water.

This is usually not easy to ascertain the period it will occur for each river, some could be 5 years, some could be 10 years”, he said.
