MEMBERS of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Nigerian Police in a joint operation rescued 19 children from the custody of Du Merci Orphanage Home located at Nomansland, Kano.
This is just as the owner of the facility, Solomon Richard, was arrested and is to to be prosecuted.
A statement signed and issued on Wednesday by Fatima Abdullahi Dala, special adviser to Kano State governor on child welfare and women mobilisation, a copy made available to pressmen further disclosed that the rescued children have been transferred to the government-owned Nassarawa Orphanage.
However, Dala added that Du Merci Orphanage Home which was registered as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has been in operation for over 25 years without a license from the Kano State government.

She noted that this is suspicious in light of the recent rescue of 10 Kano children that were abducted to Anambra State.
However, residents of the state were urged that the operation of orphanages in Kano, must not be given any religious colouration, regional or ethnic face, and therefore should not be interpreted as such.
She further called on every well-meaning Nigerians to condemn the practice and culture which would invariably be seen as a potential and heinous action against the wellbeing of children.
Dala equally advised residents of the state to report any suspicious conduct to security agencies.
