NANS, NAOSS laud Abiodun over near completion of Ogun agro-cargo airport

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) have commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his administration’s sustained efforts towards the imminent operational launch of the Gateway International Airport.

In a joint statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Ogun State NANS Chairman, Gabriel Abiola, and the NAOSS National President, Thomas Kehinde, the student bodies noted that the airport, located in Iperu-Remo, would not only facilitate international air traffic but also accelerate the state’s socioeconomic development.

They described the recent flight checks carried out by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) as a positive sign that the airport was close to receiving approval for commercial operations.

The student leaders noted that commendations from the head of the NAMA team, Engr. Miri Selzing, regarding the airport’s standards—including the impressive runway length, terminal building, and general physical layout—served as confirmation of the high-quality work delivered under Governor Abiodun’s watch.

According to the statement, although the Abiodun administration has made visible progress across several key sectors, achieving 97 percent completion of the airport within a short period stands out as a landmark achievement.

They praised the governor’s leadership style, stating that it has embedded democratic values and enabled the effective delivery of governance across Ogun State.

Describing the airport project as “the icing on the cake” of the administration’s successes, the student groups added: “Successes recorded in housing, infrastructure development, education, health, agriculture, security, sports and youth development, have put Governor Abiodun ahead of his predecessor in terms of performance and real delivery of democratic dividends.”

They further stated, “When eventually stamped by NAMA, the airport will not only operate as an agro-cargo facility but also serve commercial flights for both local and international passengers. This will further open Ogun to global markets and significantly boost the state’s economic prospects.”

Highlighting NAMA’s remarks that the runway is the longest in the country and capable of accommodating any type of aircraft, including diversions from airports in Lagos, Ibadan, and Ilorin, they applauded the governor’s foresight and execution.

While saluting the governor’s strides across key economic sectors, they urged him to remain committed to transforming the state and leaving “enduring indelible marks.”

“NANS and NAOSS will continue to rally support for his administration in its quest to build a prosperous state by making Ogun the number one destination of choice for investors within the country and abroad.”
