National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS has denounced the reappointment of the Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka, FCET Wahab Azeez over misconduct.
In a statement signed by NANS Senate President Akinteye Afeez and made available to Nigerian Tribune Newspaper on Friday, the student body described his reappointment as a way of undermining the integrity of Nigeria’s educational institutions.
NANS in the statement accused the provost of alleged corruption and misconduct during his appointment as Provost of the institution.
“The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) wishes to bring to the public’s attention our grave concerns regarding the reappointment of Mr. Azeez as the Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka.
“We have been made aware of numerous allegations of corruption and misconduct against Mr Azeez.
“The decision to reappoint Mr. Azeez as Provost, given these circumstances, is not only illegal but also unjust. It undermines the integrity of our educational institutions and erodes the trust placed in leadership roles. The Nigerian students have lost confidence in Mr. Azeez’s ability to lead with honesty and transparency
We call on the Minister of Education to immediately reconsider this reappointment. The future of our educational system depends on holding leaders accountable for their actions and ensuring that justice is served.
“Failure to address these concerns will leave us with no choice but to take necessary actions to protect the interests of Nigerian students. This may include peaceful protests and other forms of advocacy to demand accountability and transparency in our educational institutions.
“We stand united in our commitment to ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all Nigerian students. We will not relent in our efforts to seek justice and uphold the values of integrity and fairness,“ the statement reads.
