The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has said it is outraged by the tragic incident involving the kidnapping and subsequent killing of two innocent students from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA).
The student body said the murder of the AAUA students is not only heartbreaking and disturbing but also a stark reminder of the persistent and unacceptable threat to the lives and safety of young Nigerians striving for education and a better future.
Reacting to the sad development in a statement on Friday in Abuja, the National Public Relations Officer of NANS, Comrade Adeyemi Ajasa, condemned in the strongest possible terms the heinous crime.
He called on the authorities to ensure that those behind the gruesome murder of the AAUA students are brought to justice.
“It is a direct assault on the sanctity of human life and a grave injustice to the aspirations of the Nigerian youth. Such violence must not be allowed to fester, and perpetrators must face the full wrath of the law.
“We acknowledge the verified reports indicating that the @OndoPoliceNg have swiftly apprehended some key suspects linked to this gruesome act, with efforts ongoing to arrest the remaining culprit.
“NANS commends the Ondo State Police Command for their prompt response thus far and urges them to intensify efforts to ensure every single individual involved in this reprehensible crime is apprehended and brought to justice,” Ajasa stated.
He vowed that the NANS leadership would diligently follow the progression of the case until justice is fully served.
“To the grieving families and loved ones of the departed students, NANS extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences. We share in your pain and pray that Almighty God grants you the fortitude to bear this terrible, irreparable loss. May the souls of our beloved departed comrades rest in perfect peace.
“This incident reinforces our unwavering call for enhanced security measures around all tertiary institutions and host communities across the nation. The safety of Nigerian students must be prioritized, and concrete steps must be taken to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
“#JusticeForAAUAStudentsKilled– NANS stands in solidarity with the AAUA community and all Nigerian students in demanding justice for the victims,” the statement added.
