Name those who annulled June 12, Orji Kalu challenges IBB

Former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has called on former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida to reveal the individuals responsible for the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.

Stating this at the National Assembly on Tuesday, Kalu insisted that Babangida’s recently released memoir “A Journey in Service: An Autobiography” failed to address key issues surrounding the controversial annulment.

However, he insisted that the former military president should write the Volume II of the book, to be devoted largely to unanswered questions around the June 12 election.

According to him, the former military president must name those who pressured him into annulling the election, which was widely regarded as Nigeria’s freest and fairest.

“I look forward to the second edition of Babangida’s book because the first did not reveal all the realities.

“I was present during the events of June 12, and I know what happened. Babangida should call out the names of those responsible for preventing the election’s declaration,” Kalu said.

Kalu also refuted claims that the annulment was driven by ethnic interests, stating, “The coup in question was not an Igbo coup; it was a Nigerian coup, executed by the military. Moshood Abiola won that election, and there is no doubt about it’

His remarks come after Babangida, in his memoir, admitted that Chief MKO Abiola won the election but stopped short of naming those who influenced the decision to nullify the results.
