Prominent freight forwarding group, the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), has warned over 50,000 members spread across the country and the general public against getting involved either remotely or directly in the impending protest scheduled for Thursday, August 1st, 2024.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos, NAGAFF President, High Chief Toochukwu Ezisi, warned the association, numerous members, and the general public to sheath their swords and give Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, more time to deliver his electoral promises that are anchored in renewed hope.
Acknowledging that Nigerians have a right to protest as enshrined in the country’s constitution, Ezisi noted that they do not have the right to destabilise the country.
He stated that Mr President inherited a near-comatose economy, has been doing his best since his assumption of office, and therefore should be supported.
He also stated that the economic recession being experienced today is not peculiar to Nigeria alone.
He warned the troubleshooters to positively engage the government in dialogue instead of resorting to unconventional means of agitation guided by their inordinate ambitions, especially those of their sponsors.
He also warned those making unguided statements to desist from doing so, as such words have the potency to further polarise the country.
He advised Mr. President to quickly put measures in place to mitigate the suffering currently being experienced in the country.
He advocated for a drastic reduction in the cost of governance, especially given the affluent lifestyle of public servants and political appointees.
He urged the government to also increase the premium on education and security across the country.
Speaking further, the NAGAFF President said, “The government in the interim should also consider reopening the land borders for massive food imports to crash the skyrocketing prices of food items.
“They should also ensure a drastic reduction in the prices of petroleum products.”
He consequently advised all NAGAFF members and the general public to remain law-abiding, as Rome was not built in a day.
