THE governor of Oyo State, Senator Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi, has been commended by National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) for fulfilling his promise of declaring the first of Muharram public holiday to mark the commencement of a new Islamic year.
The coordinator of the state chapter of the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Alhaji Dawood Afolabi, gave the commendation, on Thursday, in his welcome address at the grand Hijrah awareness rally held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex Adamasingba, Ibadan.
Afolabi noted that since he assumed office, the governor had been giving each religion its due and had maintained religious neutrality on all issues.
He commended Ajimobi for the peace in the state and the achievements recorded in revamping the education sector.
Speaking on the theme of the programme, “Islam, Good Governance and the Recession Question: What Roles for the Muslims?” the guest speaker, Shaykh Habeebullah Buhari, noted that in Islam, good governance means the existence of justice, order and observance of rights and obligations in a society.
The Hijrah rally, which was the climax of week-long activities that included prayers, children’s quiz, guidance and counselling and women’s events, was attended by top Muslim personalities from across the state.
