N-HYPPADEC distributes 31 fibreglass boats to nine states

The National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has distributed 31 fibreglass boats to nine of its ten beneficiary states to address the challenges faced by riverine communities.

N-HYPPADEC Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, made this announcement during the inauguration ceremony for the 2024 World Maritime Day celebration at the commission’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

He explained that the distribution of the boats aims to reduce the risks associated with waterway transportation in the affected communities.

Yelwa stated that this initiative will improve commercial activities and mitigate the rate of boat accidents in the beneficiary areas. He urged the beneficiaries to use the boats wisely, maintain them properly to ensure safety and reliability and promote sustainable water transportation.

The N-HYPPADEC boss reiterated the commission’s commitment to the well-being of all riverine communities within its operational areas.

He emphasised that N-HYPPADEC will continue to work tirelessly to enhance the water transportation system and reduce the risk of boat accidents.

The theme for this year’s World Maritime Day, “Navigating the Future: Safety First,” aligns perfectly with N-HYPPADEC’s vision.

The commission adopted a fair distribution pattern for the boats, with Kaduna receiving one, Gombe receiving one, Benue receiving three, Taraba receiving two, Nassarawa receiving two, Kogi and Kwara receiving four each, Kebbi receiving six, and Niger State receiving eight.

This distribution is based on the number of hydroelectric power stations in each state.

N-HYPPADEC also plans to compensate Plateau State with other transportation system intervention projects to ensure that all states feel included.
