The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) in Kwara State has reaffirmed its commitment to providing impactful programmes and interventions in its catchment areas.
During an oversight visit by the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, Senator Oyelola Ashiru, the Kwara State Coordinator of N-HYPPADEC, Hajiya Hajara Ndaman Alhassan, highlighted the commission’s efforts in socioeconomic development.
She noted that 600 youths were recently trained in 32 different skills and trades, with start-up kits provided to aid their self-sufficiency. Other interventions include distributing fertilizers, power tillers, classrooms, and life jackets, as well as constructing a housing estate for resettling flood victims.

Hajiya Alhassan urged the federal government to increase funding for N-HYPPADEC to expand its programmes.
Senator Ashiru commended the commission’s initiatives, emphasizing their impact on youth empowerment, agriculture, health, education, and security. He also stressed the need for project monitoring to ensure sustainability.
On the issue of frequent national grid collapses, Senator Ashiru attributed them to minor distortions along power lines and urged Nigerians to remain patient as the government works with international agencies to improve the power sector.
