I am a 50-year-old menopausal woman. While some of my friends of similar age group have been able to manage their menopause well, I still have night sweats, poor sleep and mood changes. I want to know what else I can do to have a normal life.

The range of peri-menopausal and menopausal symptoms vary greatly due to the effect of decreased circulating levels of estrogen on various organ systems.
The most common presentation of menopause (60% of postmenopausal women) is hot flashes (hot flushes), sweating, and palpitations.
Other common presenting symptoms include the following: Irregular menstrual cycles, Urogenital symptoms: Vaginal dryness, soreness, superficial dyspareunia, urinary frequency and urgency as well as psychological symptoms including mood changes, insomnia, depression and anxiety. Many women can and do manage their menopausal transition without healthcare support. Exercise, healthy sleep routines, nutritious diets, and a supportive social network are sometimes all that is needed.
However, there are many women who, no matter what amount of exercise, healthy food, and positive attitude towards ageing that they have, will still face significant challenges.
If you have tried all the above approaches and you still have some challenges, your doctor may prescribe Hormonal therapy (HT) for you. HT can be prescribed as local (creams, pessaries, rings) or systemic therapy (oral drugs, transdermal patches and gels, implants).
