A woman, Lade Ahmed, tired of her relationship with her husband, Ayo Ahmed has dragged him before Oja Oba/ Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking that it ends their union.
Lade alleged that Ayo was a liar and deceitful in nature.
According to the plaintiff, the defendant refused to take her home to meet his parents, but only introduced a lady to her whom he referred to as his elder sister.
Lade stated that she believed Ayo and that they moved in with his sister after they got married.
The plaintiff told the court that a few months into their marriage, she discovered that Ayo had deceived her.
According to her, all that her husband told her and about this lady in particular were lies.
Lade explained that Ayo would creep out of their bed in the middle of the night and join her so-called sister on the floor where she slept and have sex with her.
The plaintiff further stated that the defendant denied her the necessary attention and that he refused to show any commitment towards her and their child when she was pregnant and even after delivery.
Lade added that her husband was in the habit of beating her every time she complained of his maltreatment of her and their child.
The plaintiff told the court she no longer trusted her husband and that she was not ready to stay a minute longer in their marriage.
She thus prayed the court to dissolve their union.
Ayo agreed that their marriage be dissolved.
The defendant who insisted the lady in question was his sister denied starving his wife and child.
Ayo told the court he was a caring husband and that he never raised his hand to hit his wife.
According to him, he gave his wife N3,000 per month as feeding allowance and an additional N100 each day.
Lade explained in her testimony thus: “My husband is wicked and deceitful in nature. I took him for a gentleman when we met and believed all that he told me.
“We courted for a few months and we decided on marriage.
“Ayo refused that I meet his parents throughout the length of our courtship. He kept giving diverse excuses but later introduced me to a lady whom he called his elder sister.
“I got along well with this woman and she was the one who signed on behalf of my husband’s family on our wedding day.
“My husband persuaded me that we moved in with her sister after our wedding and I agreed because I saw reason with him that we would be saving ourselves a lot of money by doing so.
“Ayo’s attitude changed towards me immediately we moved in with his sister. He neglected and maltreated me.
“My husband starved me of food. He hardly gave me feeding allowance and also deprived me of the needed attention.
“Any time I complain to his sister, she would advise that I persevere.
“Ayo refused to change even when I became pregnant.
“His behaviour went from bad to worse. He took to beating me even during pregnancy whenever I complain about his irresponsible act.
“I single-handedly paid for my antenatal treatment in the hospital and bought all that our baby would need.
“My lord, things gradually became clear to me when I discovered that my husband had been deceiving me all these while. All Ayo said about her sister were lies.
“This lady is actually my husband’s lover and both have been sleeping together for long.
“Ayo would sneak out of our bed in the middle of the night and join his sister on the floor where she slept to make love.
“This caused a friction between this lady and me.
“Ayo till date has continued to shirk his responsibilities towards me and our child. He shows no interest in us.
“My husband has subjected me to much humiliation. I’m tired of my union with him. I’m convinced that life without him will be better.
“My lord, I earnestly pray that you end our relationship and grant me custody of our child.
“I further plead that this honourable court make my husband fully responsible for our child’s upkeep,” the plaintiff pleaded.
Ayo in his evidence said, “My lord, Lade is the one lying.
“I never deceived nor betrayed the trust she had in me. The woman she made mention of is my sister.
“My sister took good care of Lade, but all she has as reward for my sister’s good deeds is this mess.
“I am a caring husband and have never failed in my duty towards my wife and our child.
“It is unfortunate that Lade belongs to the group of women who are hard to please.
“There was never a time I beat my wife. In fact I prepared my breakfast throughout the time she was pregnant so that she would have enough sleep.
“I give her N3,000 on regular basis as feeding allowance for each month with an addition N100 every day.
“My lord, it is obvious that our marriage has failed. My wife is free to go,” the defendant stated.
Ruling, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade, dissolved their wedlock and granted custody of their child to the plaintiff.
The defendant was ordered to be responsible for his upkeep.
Both were advised to maintain peace.
