A woman, Latifat Olaniyi has brought a divorce suit against her husband, Ganiyu Olaniyi at Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Latifat in her suit accused Ganiyu of irresponsibility, neglect and battery.

According to the plaintiff, she has decided to move on with her life, after the defendant told her he was no longer interested their marriage.

Latifat thus beseech the court, if her prayer was answered to grant her custody of their children, but make her husband responsible for their upkeep, giving priority to their feeding, education and health care.

Ganiyu denied all the allegations when they were read to her.

Latifat explained that, “I met and got married to my husband in 2011.

“We held an introduction ceremony, but my husband didn’t pay my bride price.

“We started experiencing a strain in our relationship from the outset of our marriage.

“My husband shirked his responsibility in the home and passed the bulk to me.

“He felt comfortable that I fed and clothed him and our children.

“I went ahead to enroll our children in school and also pay their school fees, after all my efforts to get him committed to these failed.

“Ganiyu slept and woke up in our apartment everyday, but never paid a dime as rent.

“Any time I charged him to be up to his responsibility in the home, he would complain of paucity of fund.

“Studying the pattern his life was taking, we both concluded that he needed divine intervention.

“I stood by him, praying, fasting and seeking help from servants of God.

“Rather than show appreciation for my kind gestures, he took to beating me.

“My husband sought every opportunity to hit, bruise and leave me sour.

“The last time he beat me, he declared that he was no longer interested in me.

“Ganiyu requested that we go our different ways.

“My lord, I came to court because I want to move on with my life.

“I, therefore, pray the court to declare that we are no longer husband and wife.

“I also appeal to the court to grant me custody of our children, but make my husband responsible for their upkeep, giving up most attention to feeding, education and medical service.

The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo adjourned the case till June 29.
