Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has shared her thoughts on marriage, saying she believes it should be based on growth, compatibility and accountability rather than feelings alone.
The Grammy-winning singer made the remarks during a recent interview with Angie Martinez, where she spoke about what she looks for in a partner and why she believes marriage should be approached with the understanding that it will not always be easy.
According to Tems, she prefers a God-fearing partner because such a person is more likely to be accountable in a relationship.

“My partner has to be a God-fearing man. Because why would you truly love me if you don’t have anyone that you answer to? If you’re not accountable to anyone, how could you choose to love and keep loving me for the rest of our lives?
“If you’re the god of your life, why would you love me forever? You could just discard me anytime you want. But marriage is something that makes you better as a human being. It should. It shouldn’t be about only love, it’s about compatibility.
“It’s about whether a relationship makes you a better person, like it evolves you. Because marriage is a whole another level, it’s supposed to bring out the hard times,” she stated.
