A Shari’a Court in Kano, Kano State, has dissolved the wedlock between a driver, Zakari Ghali, 48, and his wife, Shamsiyya Haruna, 33, on the grounds of abandonment.
Shamsiyya, who lives at Unguwa Uku Quarters Kano, in her petition, prayed the court to dissolve their marriage and grant her custody of their children on the grounds that Zakari abandoned her and their five children without food.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the judge, Malam Umar Lawal-Abubakar, delivering judgment, said that their marriage was dissolved after all efforts to reconcile the couple by the court and their guardians failed.
He, earlier ordered Zakari to pay the petitioner N90,000 for his children’s monthly upkeep.
Zakari told the court that he left the house because of the present economic hardship.
“I have no money to cater for my family now. The owner of the car I was using to transport goods has taken back his car from me,” he said.
