A daughter of the late politician and the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election, Moshood Abiola, Aderinsola Abiola has declared that the death of her father in efforts to reclaim his mandate would not deter her from politics, rather, a motivation for her to continue where her father stopped.
She made the declaration during an interview with journalists at the 20-year remembrance anniversary of Abiola held at the Gbagura Central Mosque in Abeokuta, Ogun State adding that she was convinced that her father did not die in vain in the struggle to usher in democracy in the country.
“My father’s death is not enough to discourage me from active politics, but his demise is a vehicle to inspire me to participate in active politics. “My father stood for what he believed, and was interested in national development,” she said.
The 27-year-old daughter who sponsored the remembrance anniversary said it was important for her to organise the prayer session, because her late father stood for what he believed while alive, and was interested in national development.
She emphasised that, if she failed to emulate his (Abiola) political sagacity, that would be unfair and one would have concluded that he died in vein, but he didn’t die in vain, because his death also pave way for democracy, which many politicians are now benefiting from.
The Special Assistant to the Speaker of the House of Representatives who had earlier donated books to Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta, the Alma Mata of her father, and also offered scholarships as part of the remembrance ceremony, said his late father was a known lover of education.
She, however, confessed that she has been missing her father caring nature, recalling that he did not allow any of his children to lack, just as he also praised President Muhammed Buhari administration bravery in recognizing Abiola as the authentic winner of June 12, 1993 Presidential election
Similarly, a former Deputy Governorship Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State,Ambassador Tunde Oladunjoye in his speech at the occasion said the late Abiola was a pathfinder of many good things who cannot and should not be forgotten.
He declared that, majority of politicians in power have continued to enjoy the dividends of Abiola’s death, who laid down his life for the democracy the country is having now, just as he prayed for the departed soul to continue resting in peace.
