The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) on Tuesday condemned the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing it as a barbaric attack on the future of the region and the nation.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, and Executive Secretary, Professor Wole Abbas, MUSWEN expressed deep sorrow over the abductions.
The group also condemned the reported killing of one of the abducted teachers, Mr. Michael Oyedokun, whose death was confirmed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde after the circulation of a disturbing video.
“MUSWEN is deeply pained by this heinous crime against innocent children and dedicated educators.
“Kidnapping for ransom and the cold-blooded murder of a teacher in the course of performing his duties represent the height of inhumanity and a direct assault on the educational foundation of our society. We stand in solidarity with the families of the victims and the people of Oyo State at this difficult time,” the organisation said.

The apex Muslim body in the South West called on security agencies to intensify efforts toward the immediate and unconditional release of all remaining hostages.
It also urged the federal and state governments to adopt a more proactive and comprehensive approach to tackling insecurity through improved intelligence gathering, community policing, and measures aimed at addressing the socio-economic factors fueling banditry.
MUSWEN appealed to residents of the affected communities and the general public to support security operatives with useful information while remaining calm and avoiding actions that could jeopardise rescue efforts.
The organisation prayed for the repose of the slain teacher’s soul and for the safe return of all abducted pupils and staff.
It also urged Muslim communities across the South West to support affected families through prayers and material assistance where possible.
MUSWEN reiterated its commitment to partnering with relevant stakeholders in the fight against insecurity, stressing that the safety of schools, pupils, and educators must remain a top national priority.
