THE Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Oyo State Area Unit, has formally invested some notable Muslim personalities as patrons and matrons to further strengthen the organisation and aid the smooth conduct of its activities.
The honorees included a former Head of the Department of Adult Education, University of Ibadan, Professor Rashid Aderinoye; wife of former deputy governor of Oyo State, Professor Hamdalat Olaniyan and the Chief Executive Officer, Kayrom Lee Gym and Fitness Centre, who is also the Iyalaje Adinni of Oyo State, Ambassador Romoke Ayinde.
Speaking at the investiture and launch of a fundraiser for a N1 billion Islamic centre at the University of Ibadan, a former dean of the Faculty of Arts of the university, Professor Afis Oladosu, said the MSSN had fostered unity among Muslim students and encouraged them to be steadfast on the right path.
The chairman of the occasion, the senator for Oyo Central distric, Yunus Akintunde, who was represented by Professor Abideen Olaiya of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, noted that the organisation had contributed immensely to the growth of Islam.
He expressed optimism that the organisation would do more for Islam and humanity with the completion of its proposed Islamic centre.
While receiving an award, one of the matrons, Ambassador Romoke Ayinde, commended the MSSN for its doggedness in propagating Islam, advising the group to extend its activities to Islamic schools in the state.
Ambassador Ayinde promised to continue to support the society with all that Allah has given her.
Earlier, the amir of the unit, AbdulKabir Alamal’Yakeen, who expressed appreciation to those who have been assisting the organisation, called on all Muslims to ensure the successful completion of the proposed Islamic centre by donating to the project.
A highpoint of the event was the cutting of the 70th anniversary cake of the MSSN which was donated by Ambassador Ayinde.
